Following the recent directives to all mobile network operators in Nigeria by the NCC to increase internet subscription prices, there are significant changes observed in the MTN data plan products.

MTN has hiked the price of some of its data bundles by at least 50%. An example is the digital bundles that usually offer a 15GB plan for N2000 and are valid for 7 days, which later got hiked to N6000 and now replaced by 7GB for N3000.
Similarly, the 3.5GB for the N500 2-day digital bundle now has a price of 1000 Naira (100% increase).
Why did MTN update the price of this plan?
Previously, the network operators in Nigeria requested a tariff price review due to current market conditions. On this note, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approved this at a maximum of 50% price increase.
Reuben Mouka, the NCC spokesperson, announced the decision in January, explaining that it aligns with the commission’s regulatory authority under Section 108 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
According to Mouka, the new regulation permits a maximum tariff increase of 50 percent, a compromise from the over 100 percent hike initially requested by some network operators.
